Spiritual Sensitivity
Spiritual Sensitivity
At Bristlecone Therapy one of our core values is to be spiritually sensitive in our provision of care. For us this means:
We support our clients in utilizing faith as a resource in their pursuit of health and healing.
We explore with our clients any ways in which their religious and spiritual backgrounds may be hindering personal and relational growth.

Bristlecone Therapy offers faith-based individual and couples therapy, life coaching, and shadow work facilitation. These services are provided by clinicians and coaches who identify themselves as followers of Jesus.
-
We invite our clients to bring in those aspects of their faith that feel relevant to their work with us. This may mean, for example, the inclusion of certain spiritual practices (e.g., prayer, reading of scripture) or explorations around how a client’s religious beliefs and values are impacting (for good or bad) their most important relationships.

In a word, no. (But we would be happy to refer you to other practices in the area that do.)
While our faith-based providers believe that the Bible [1] is the great redemption story of God’s radical love for humankind and [2] does have wisdom for life in our modern world, we do not believe that the Bible ought to be read as a “how-to manual” for psychotherapy or life coaching. That said, we do very much believe that in scripture Jesus models a way of living life and engaging in relationship that we are all invited to emulate. Therefore, in our work as faith-based providers, we desire to be like Jesus by relating with clients through a posture of humility, hospitality, and lovingkindness.

Absolutely! While many of our clinicians and coaches identify as followers of Jesus, we all desire to be spiritually sensitive to clients of all faith traditions.
For us this means that we will be curious about how any client’s faith, beliefs, and practices serve to support and/or hinder their growth and healing. It also means that we will be respectful of all aspects of our clients’ faith backgrounds and will not bring in our own beliefs and practices (if different from those of our clients) unless expressly asked to do so.

Not a problem! We will work with you and your spouse or partner (or other family members) to navigate the complexities of holding differing religious/spiritual beliefs and practices in the context of a close relationship.
We will invite all parties to consider where there are areas of overlap among their different beliefs and practices, as well as how such differences in beliefs and practice can lead to relational conflict and pain.
We often invite our clients to explore how they want to navigate peaceably their religious and spiritual differences. Sometimes we also support our clients in exploring the choices they have before them if certain differences with a spouse/partner or other family member seem irreconcilable. -
