Meet Jake!

Dr. Jake Johnson is the founder and executive director of Bristlecone Therapy (BCT). He began BCT in 2021 with a desire to bring together three aspects of healing that do not often find themselves wedded to one another: relationshipbodywork, and spirituality.

Jake has extensive training in each of these areas. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) with a MS and a PhD in marriage and family therapy. He has completed externship work in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment, both of which are modalities that focus on somatic (i.e., body-based) healing and bottom-up processing in psychotherapy. He has also received training in healing prayer at Christian Healing Ministries and is a prayer minister at Church of the Resurrection in Wheaton, IL.

In order to deal with the deep pains and past traumas that many people carry with them as a weight around their whole selves, Jake believes that a multifaceted approach to healing involving one's most important relationships, one's body, and one's religious/spiritual beliefs and practices is called for. To this end, Jake seeks to create space in therapy for his clients to explore how each of the aforementioned areas is connected to their present life stressors. Specifically, he makes use of various somatic and body-based approaches alongside Internal Family Systems work to support clients in finding the internal, interpersonal, and spiritual freedom they desire.

At BCT, Jake specializes in working with the following clientele:

  • Couples in conflict (especially regarding issues of codependency)

  • Adults with histories of developmental trauma and attachment injuries

  • Religious and spiritually-related trauma

Lastly, in all of his free time, Jake is a husband and father to four boys (14, 12, 9, and 7) as well as an associate professor of marriage and family therapy at Wheaton College, where he also serves as the clinical training coordinator for the MFT program.

If Jake sounds like he could be a good fit for your needs, feel free to reach out to him today at 630-492-1388 x701 or at jake@bristleconetherapy.com.
